Pale, rugged rocks; vibrant, blossoming meadows; thick fairytale forests; and mountains filled with flora and fauna that have made their home in this landscape. Obereggen loves – and lives – its nature. And protects it.
What can we do to make the hiking and skiing region of Obereggen even more sustainable?
Well, quite a lot, as it happens, and we’ve been doing it for some time now: eco-friendly electricity powers the ski lifts, a wood-chip fuelled district heating system supplies the entire village community with heat, heat recovery systems, geothermal heating in a ski hut located at 2,096 metres above sea level – and an environmental management system certified to ISO 14001 standards, which has been in operation since 2004. At our Alpine hut Oberholz we don't serve water packaged in the usual bottles but only filtered and purified water from the local mountain springs using BWT technology.
A mindful, conscientious approach to nature is within all our power, including visitors. That’s why we want to encourage you to use public transport, which provides excellent connections throughout South Tyrol. Hiking and skiing buses also provide a regular service – free of charge to holders of the Eggental Mobil Card – from all villages in the Eggental valley to the lower lift stations, the gateways to practically endless hiking, biking and winter adventures. Why drive when you can manage so easily without a car? Help us to protect and preserve the spellbindingly beautiful countryside of Obereggen, the Eggental valley and the whole of South Tyrol for future generations!
