The sun sings from a blazing blue sky. The Catinaccio and Latemar massifs, the spruce and hilly meadows glint and glitter. Your calves are tingling. No skis, no special equipment! You just need one thing to get you in the mood for walking: the winter walking paths of Obereggen.
Groomed, grooved, cleared – 20 km of winter walking paths lead through the sparkly-white snow world of the Dolomites. For easy family walks with the pushchair or bracing hikes with some steeper terrain thrown in. Walking and winter go hand in hand for snow explorers.
What else do you need apart from the walking bug? Sturdy winter boots, weatherproof clothing, maybe a pair of socks and yes, a hat, gloves and a thermos flask of tea are required for a foray in the fresh winter air.
Mountain pasture walk: Starting from Obereggen taking 'Ochsenweide' cabin lift, go to Epircher Laner Alm. From there, take the 'Almenweg' path to Weigler Schupf, Mayrlalm, Zischgalm and Ganischger Alm – and back the same way.
Carezza lake winter tour: The walk starts off in leisurely fashion from Obereggen from the upper car park to Bewallerhof. This is the starting point for Templweg marked path number 9 to Lago di Carezza.
To Epircher Laner Alm: Leaving Obereggen, go past the hotels at the upper car park and take the footpath along the toboggan run (length: 2.5 km). Once up there – after around 1 hour's walk in winter – you can stop off at the Epircher Laner Alm and enjoy some tasty food!
To Oberholz mountain hut: Take the footpath along the toboggan run from the upper car park in Obereggen, then turn off left to Oberholz mountain hut. After 1.5 hour's walk, you can enjoy a well-earned meal.
