Hydropower is mechanically-generated, renewable energy: water – e.g. from a stream or river – runs through a turbine, causing it to rotate. Generators then convert the resulting kinetic energy into electricity – and eco-friendly electricity at that! South Tyrol’s largest hydropower plant at Kardaun/Cardano, near Bolzano/Bozen, supplies our energy in Obereggen, where all our mountain and valley stations, ski lifts and skiing and mountain huts use only eco-friendly electricity. By taking this approach, we can steer clear of non-renewable energy sources and the corresponding exploitation of our natural world.
